How Zyrtec Works
Zyrtec blocks histamine receptors on cells. Histamine is the chemical responsible for allergy symptoms. Histamine is released from histamine-storing cells. It then attaches to other cells that have receptors of histamine. The attachment causes the cell to become activated; releasing chemicals that also produce effects of allergies. Zyrtec blocks one type of receptor and prevents the cell activation.
